Transforming the Cuddly Cute Teddy Into A Cutthroat Killer

I’ll be honest. All of these years and I’ve never thought of doing a zombie piece. Boy, was I missing out! ZOMBIES ARE FUN TIMES!

Zombie pieces are ABSOLUTELY one of the coolest things for me to work on now and I can thank my good friend, Joe Hettler (aka Mighty Joe), who came to me with an idea one day: “Hey Sammy, check this out… I need a crazy-looking-zombie-panda-teddy-bear that just ripped the head off of a cute cuddly teddy bear.” The rest is history. We sat down and discussed the idea further and came up with a rough layout.

Rather than approach it with my usual 3D style I decided to get old school on this piece. I wanted to go analogue and draw a comic style illustration. And that’s exactly what I did… sort of. I confess, I didn’t go 100% old school or 100% analogue but I still drew the piece freehand and I still went the comic route. My soul was crying out to me to do the entire piece digitally in Photoshop. FUN! Great exercise on many levels and I’ll be doing a lot more of these, that’s for sure.

So without further ado, I present to you Zombie Panda Teddy and his wrecking crew in all of their decaying, ripping, slashing, shredding, and gnashing glory!!! Next stop–COLOR!!!! Enjoy y’all!

Presenting line art for Zombie Panda Teddy. After some tweaking, I’m off to coloring this bad boy! Fun Piece!
More zombie chaos is already in the pipeline, so stay tuned.
