Work In Progress
Legend of Ha Long Bay
Update: Okay, earlier I mentioned I had a pre-dawn epiphany and realized
I was not giving Ha Long or its legend its proper due. Something didn’t feel right as I started blocking elements in.
I took a step back and came to the conclusion that I needed to make the piece a true panorama so that I would achieve two things: 1. Place emphasis on the scope of the subject matter. 2. Keep eye movement flowing in a counterclockwise direction.
This is what I have arrived at. I feel much better and hope you do too! Onward my friends!

Pictured is a revised layout of “Legend of Ha Long Bay”. Sense of scale is more obvious in this version. Visual flow of elements is a lot more pleasing as well. If you notice, the horny frill of the dragon is more ornate and closer to eastern representations of dragons in art. Accuracy counts! Also notice, I went full bleed with the entire image. Vignette was not suitable for this piece.
